But I never had the desire to be involved so much to be something like a surgeon. This gives me the opportunity to work with people and medicine without doing the dirty work. They keep a careful watch on patients to make sure they are using their prescriptions properly. They also instruct doctors on the side effects, dosages, selection, and interactions of certain medications. They answer any questions the public may have on drugs. It usually consists of a 6 year course (2 years of previous college education followed by a 4 year Pharm.D. program). After graduation, you must get licensed as a pharmacist by passing state required exams. Also there is a certain amount of education you have to complete every year to keep up with the changes and improvements. A normal retail pharmacist's routine would consist of at least an 8 hour shift. They will fill prescriptions called in by doctors and physicians, supply the public with the prescriptions they need to pick up, answer questions by the public or doctors about drug details, monitor patient medications, and work with insurance companies on paying for medications. Usually when people think of a pharmacist, they think of the normal over the counter person in a local pharmacy. But there are many different ways to pursue your pharmacy career.
