Transcript: The flag must never touch the ground because if it does this is a sign of disrespect to the flag. So remeber... QUIZ 1. How Many times has the United States Flag been modified? 2. Why is it bad for the Flag to touch the Ground 3.When the flag is properly folded, what shape should it be? 4. When the flag gets worn down what should you do with it? Flag Education Presentation Sometimes we see the flag halfway up the pole. This is called Half staff. The design of the flag has been modified 26 times officially, since 1777. The 48-star flag was in effect for 47 years until the 49-star version became official on July 4, 1959. The 50-star flag was ordered by President Eisenhower on August 21, 1959. The first american flag was designed and made by Betsy Ross. If the flag is flown at night it must be illuminated. At the end of my eagle project I will retire several American Flags. I would like for you to attend and I will let your teachers know of the date and time. Just like humans, flags need to retire. The flag is retired when worn and dirty. Flag Etiquette If the flag is tattered or worn down it should either be repaired or replaced. If it is replaced it must be retired preferably by burning. DON'T EVER LET THE FLAG TOUCH THE GROUND! History When we fold the American Flag we use the military method. FLAG RETIREMENT PROPER FOLDING During a flag ceremony the person with the American flag should stand on the right side. There should be a designated caller who calls out each command to the flag bearers. Thank You all for your attention during this presentation. The Flag should never be dipped to anyone or anything, unless it is responding from a salute of a ship of a foreign nation. (This means that the flag is being tilted from an upright position to a 45 degree angle) The United States has something called a flag code which outlines certain guidelines for the use, display, and disposal of the flag. For example... Introduction When properly folded, the flag should be the shape of a triangle and you should only see stars and blue. Flags are usually retired on flag day and Martin Luther King jr.’s birthday and Presidents day.
