Starry Starry Night

Transcript: Stars are objects in the universe that give off heat, light, and some sort of radiation. Our star, the sun is the closest star to the earth and the only star in our solar system. This is what keeps the planets orbiting around the sun. Stars also have a life cycle just millions of years longer than us. First a star starts out inside a nebulae, the dust in the nebulae becomes more dense until a star forms. Then the main sequence of the star begins. After the main sequence is over the star can go one of two ways it will either expand into a gas giant then shed it's outer layers and become a white dwarf, like our sun. If the star was much bigger than the sun though it would explode into a supernova. From there it can again go one of two ways, it can squeeze together into a dense star called a netron star that sometimes send out pulses and are also called pulsar stars. The star if it was very massive can compress into a space of infinite density called singularity, or a black hole. Any thing that goes into a black hole will never come out. It might have been hard to believe but once people thought that the sun wasn't at the center of our Solar System, they thought the Earth was. A man named Ptolemy said that the Earth was at the center of the universe. This is called a Geocentric system, and the one with the sun at the center is called a Heliocentric system. Stars are the only things that give of real (not artificial) light in the universe. Stars Galaxies Starry Starry Night A science olympiad topic Galaxies are

Juliet Miller, Van Gogh enthusiast content It depicts the view from the East facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, with the addition of an idealized village. Above the village is a vivid scene of the night just before sunrise. The swirling motion is meant to express his turbulent emotions and attempts to overcome his mental illnesses. Vincent Van Gogh 1889 oil on canvas post impressionism Saint-Rémy, France context discussion questions: Juliet and her Van Gogh obsession form Starry Night Art Historian Robert Rosenblum wrote of Van Gogh: "Of the many marvels that make up Van Gogh's genius, one is his uncanny capacity to project his total visual and emotional attention into anything he painted, animate or inanimate, so that a shoe, a sunflower, a chair, a book could carry as much weight as the image of a human being." Starry Night was painted during the last few months of his life at Saint Paul de Mausole, a mental hospital. Van Gogh painted in the art therapy studios there. It is still in use to this day. By: Juliet Miller & Kathleen Parker Some of Van Gogh's most famous paintings were done there, such as: "The Irises", "Starry Night", "Olive Orchard ", "Wheat field with Cypress", "The First Steps", "Wheat field with a reaper", "La sieste", "The Roadmenders", "Garden in the St-Paul hospice", "Vase with Iris", "Vincent's Room in Arles" bibliography Singer/ songwriter Don Mclean wrote a song, ''Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)'' in 1971, as a tribute to Vincent. -Despite common belief, Van Gogh did not cut off his ear to give to a lover. He was in a bar fight and had it cut off. -Wheatfield with Crows was the last documented work of his before his death -He was a missionary before he became an artist. He would often stay with the people he was missioning too, and live their every day with them. The heads of the church found it outlandish, and told him to find a new profession. in pop culture Van Gogh painted this so as to visualize his otherwise hard to express feelings. While many of his paintings are emotional, this one is one of the more known because it is one of the last that he painted before his death. -do you think the asylum allowed him to paint better? -what is your favorite aspect of Starry Night/ what strikes you about the painting first? -do you think that his artwork justifies the hurt that he hato go through to create what he did? The vivid hues of the stars, sky, moon and cypresses have a near anthropomorphic quality lacking in the landscapes of the French Impressionists whose work influenced his style. He was exposed to Picasso and Monet and slightly influenced by them but tended to use brighter colors and experimented with more techniques.

Van Gogh paints the rich colors of the night. Colors are used to suggest emotion. Some believe Van Gogh may have been suffering from lead poisoning or a type of brain disease and that this explains his strange use of color in later paintings. Painters try to transmit their emotions Color The starry night is an impressionism painting, which is one of the most interesting art movements in history Vincent Van Gogh chose a specific color palette. White and yellow creates a spiral effect – draws attention to the sky. Vertical lines (cypress tree and church tower) softly break up the composition. Dark blues and greens were complemented with mint green showing the reflection of the moon. Buildings – blocks of yellows, oranges and greens with a dash of red.
