Transcript: How do I become an electrical engineer? Video Monique Elise Hayford February 2016 Physics: Block 2 Electrical engineers design, establish, test, and oversee the creation of electrical equipment, such as electric motors, radar and navigation systems, communications systems, or power generation equipment. What is relates to? Average Income Internships? Electrical Engineering deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. The median income for an electrical engineer is, as of 2014, $91,410, in comparison to the median income of $51,939 at the time (according to the US Census 2014) Electrical Engineering Monique Elise Hayford Electrical Engineering Presentation Without electrical engineering, there would be not television, air conditioning, communication, motors, or refrigerators (just to name a FEW). Electrical engineering is extremely important in society. In electrical engineering, there are a plethora of internship opportunities. While internships are not mandatory to acquire a job in electrical engineering, job experience would increase your chances. What is it? In high school, it is recommended that you take physics and math classes. To be an electrical engineer, you must have a bachelor's degree and it is recommended that you have some field experience. Incidentally, it is asked that you have your PE (professional engineering) license. There are many universities that offer a five year program for engineering students to earn both their Bachelor's and Master's degree. Quick Facts Madison, N., and Niki Foster. WiseGeek. Electrical engineers work in various industries, including engineering services, research and development, and manufacturing. Electrical and electronics engineers generally work indoors in offices. However, they may visit sites to observe a problem or a piece of complex equipment. SUBTOPIC 2 PICTURES PICTURES Photo 2 What do you need to become an electrical engineer? Job Requirements What kind of education/training is needed? Most employers require electrical engineers to hold a bachelor's degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), but some colleges still offer associate programs in electrical engineering to serve as a stepping-stone to a four-year degree. Education Education All electrical engineers who work in the utility field must be licensed through the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Training Training How much money does an electrical engineer make? Money The average pay for an Electrical Engineer is $72,602 per year. College graduates with bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering can expect an average starting salary of $57,000. Salaries typically start from about $57,000 and go up to about $147,000. Starting salary Starting salary The national average salary for a Electrical Engineer is $85,583 in United States. National average National average The Future The Future of Electrical engineering Employment of electrical and electronics engineers is projected to show little or no change from 2014 to 2024. Change in employment is expected to be tempered by slow growth or decline in most manufacturing sectors in which electrical and electronics engineers are employed. Percentages Percentages
