We have an acceptance rate of 85.1%. WVU athletes have the highest graduation success rate in the NCAA at 83%. WVU offers nearly 200 bachelor's, masters, doctoral and professional programs within the 14 colleges on campus. There are more than 300 student organizations to try -including 30 Greek Chapters -and 20 WVU Mountaineer teams Worried about class size? Don't be! 49.9% have 20-49 students 35.1% have fewer than 20 students 18% have 50 or more students Conclusion From games to tailgates to DJ appearances, WVU has some of the most school spirit any university could have. Every year, at the beginning of the fall semester, WVU hosts Fall Fest, a free concert for students, with special guest appearances such as Macklemore, Big Sean, Akon, and Ludacris. WVU More Than a Party School People tend to oversee the negative more than the positive. Drinking does consume many students here at WVU, but that shouldn't reflect our reputation. WVU offers other activities for fun and entertainment. Partier or not, in your four or more years, if you have the determination, used your resources wisely and set your goals right, West Virginia University can guarantee you a degree. Why WVU is the Right School for YOU WVU's own newspaper, the Daily Athenaeum, says it best, "Although our school’s reputation may not seem like a concern, at the end of your four (or more) years here you will walk away with a degree. Whether you partied hard or hit the books in your spare time, the goal is to walk away with the resources and connections you need to form your career. History WVU's Mascot Founded in 1867,the University of West Virginia is a public all-man school. The school was officially opened on September 2,1867 for any student. On December 4,1868 the school was named the University of West Virginia. The First building that was constructed was the university hall made in 1870. The hall was named after the first university president,Martin hall. In 1873 the Woodburn Seminary building was destroyed by a fire. In 1889 the first 10 women stepped foot on campus. In 1891 a girl named Lyon was the first female to get a degree at WVU. During academic probation, you must enter into a contract with the center for learning. The student placed on the contract must fulfill all conditions of the agreement.
